b.k.

As a kid, Brian never imagined that making art was going to be what he wanted to do with his life. He was too busy playing house with his friends, running through sprinklers, dancing to ABBA with his mom in their minivan, and telling his family that he wanted to be a “mad scientist” when he grew up.

But when you think about it, all of those things mixed up with a splash of Chemical X will probably lead you to be an artist.

Brian got his start in photography when he inherited his late grandfather’s film cameras and fell in love. With his fervent passion for art and fashion, he continues to capture the stories he sees around him filled with the people, places, and things he loves.

Brian holds a BFA in Theatre with a Concentration in Acting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He is also a published poet and serves as an assistant poetry editor for Hooligan Mag’s Spilled Ink.

Brian is always in the pursuit of bringing greater diversity and encouraging free expression to all, believing that Art is not what we do, but how we do it.

List of hobbies Brian likes to do, but doesn’t do as often:

  • Calligraphy (After 5 years of the art, Brian felt satisfied and now has great cursive handwriting!)

  • Water Color Painting (Brian got bored waiting for things to dry.)

  • Drawing (Do you think Brian would spend 5 years learning calligraphy if he was good at drawing? ‘Nough said…)

  • Singing (If you heard his rendition of Santa Fe from the musical “Newsies”, you’ll know why he doesn’t sing as much anymore.)

  • Guitar (No one ever tells you how annoying finger callouses are when you first start playing guitar…)

  • Piano (Even though his mom is a classically trained pianist, Brian just didn’t have the attention span for it. At least he knows how to play chords!)

  • Dance (Brian can’t dance.)

  • Video Games (Brian thinks Kingdom Hearts II is the peak of gaming…)

  • Not be an asshole (“It’s just too much fun being one.”)
